A study published in PLOS Mental Health examined intergenerational trauma effects among adult children of World Trade Center responders with PTSD more than two decades after 9/11. Researchers found that greater parental exposure to 9/11, current parental PTSD and depression, and poor parent-offspring relationships were significantly associated with higher rates of PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance use disorders in adult offspring.
