A critically endangered New Zealand parakeet species has seen its population surge thanks to a breeding pair named Nacho and Trixie at the Isaac Conservation and Wildlife Trust in Christchurch, which have produced 55 chicks since 2024, representing more than 10 percent of the total population of approximately 450 birds.
