Mercedes Technical Director James Allison revealed that a catastrophic battery failure caused George Russell's retirement while leading the Canadian Grand Prix on Lap 30. Russell's DNF allowed teammate Kimi Antonelli to win the race, extending his championship lead over Russell to 43 points.

Can't help but feel bad for George. Finally has a shot at the title and Kimi comes storming in and then this.

Could be like Oscar last year... His only chance.

If the Merc remains on top, Kimi will only get better too.

It's about as bad luck as its possible to have. A prodigy appears just in the year when it was finally his turn. The silver lining is Toto was vindicated for pursuing Kimi. One Kimi win could have been a fluke, but not this many wins.

I still quietly hope Oscar has a championship in him. Lando seems to have lost the fire since winning WDC once.
