Australia will purchase three second-hand Virginia-class submarines from the United States under a revised AUKUS agreement, shifting from plans to buy two used and one new submarine. Defence Minister Richard Marles cited operational simplicity and cost savings, though analysts debate whether the change reflects budgetary constraints or genuine strategic benefits.
They keep trying to make it work and it's so obviously not going to work. Also we've paid $2bn to accelerate new submarine production in the US and now we're not even getting new submarines. So do we get that $2bn back?
